Connect and publish to YouTube

Learn how to connect your YouTube personal profile and company page and understand publishing for YouTube through HeyOrca.

⚠️ Due to YouTube’s API requirements, in order to publish directly to YouTube, you must:

  • Be logged into the Google account your YouTube account is connected to

  • Have Owner permissions (Manager permissions are not able to connect a YouTube account to HeyOrca)

Connect your YouTube account

Log in to the YouTube account you’re connecting to and have it open in another tab while you’re connecting it to HeyOrca. Then, follow the steps below to get the account connected:

  1. From your workspace, go to Settings.

  2. From the Integrations tab, click Add account.

  3. Find the YouTube tile from the Integration options and click Connect

  4. Click Continue from the connection page, then follow the authorization prompts from YouTube which will include logging in to the Google account the YouTube channel is connected to.

⚠️ If you are not able to log in to the Google Account connected to the YouTube Account, you will not be able to connect to the YouTube account.


Supported Post types

With HeyOrca, you can plan and publish video posts to YouTube. Here are the specs for publishing to YouTube though HeyOrca:

Shorts

  • Length: Up to 60 seconds (videos longer than 60 seconds will be published as long-form videos)

  • Aspect ratio: 9:16 (recommended resolution: 1080 × 1920 px)

  • Supported formats: MP4, MOV

  • Maximum file size: 100 MB

Long-form videos

  • Aspect ratio: 16:9 (recommended resolution: 1920 × 1080 px)

  • Maximum video length (unverified YouTube channels): 15 minutes

  • Maximum video length (verified YouTube channels): 30 minutes

  • Supported formats: MP4, MOV

  • Maximum file size: 1 GB (regardless of video length or channel verification status)

👀 FYI: Videos larger than 1 GB will need to be uploaded directly through YouTube.


Add a custom thumbnail to your YouTube video

A custom thumbnail helps you control how your video appears in your YouTube channel. You can upload your own cover image* or choose a frame from your video.

To select your custom thumbnail:

  1. Open your YouTube post and navigate to the preview carousel under the post preview. Click on the three dots on the corner of the video you want to add a thumbnail to.

  2. Click Edit

  3. Use the slider to scroll through your video to select a thumbnail from the video.

  4. Once your thumbnail has been either uploaded or selected, click Save.

  5. Your custom thumbnail will now appear in the video preview.

To upload your own thumbnail, you'll need to verify your channel with a phone number.
