Troubleshoot Facebook & Instagram reauthorization

Learn how to troubleshoot Facebook and Instagram reauthorization issues in HeyOrca.

Understand Meta connections

Facebook and Instagram Business accounts connect to HeyOrca through Meta’s Graph API, which is the system Meta provides to approved third-party platforms, like HeyOrca, to securely interact with Facebook and Instagram accounts.

This connection allows HeyOrca to:

  • Publish posts

  • Pull analytics and reporting data

  • Access comments and messages

  • Sync account information

Since Instagram Business accounts are managed through Meta, Facebook permissions are also used to manage Instagram connections. This is why reconnecting an Instagram Business account often requires logging into Facebook and confirming Facebook Page permissions.

If a Facebook or Instagram connection expires or permissions change, HeyOrca may temporarily lose access to publishing, analytics, or other account features until the account is reauthorized. Reauthorization refreshes the connection between HeyOrca and Meta and confirms that the required permissions are still active.

Meta Reauthorization Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check business integrations in Facebook

First, confirm that all required Meta permissions are enabled for HeyOrca by opening Facebook’s Business Integrations settings.

Before continuing:

  • Make sure you are logged into your personal Facebook profile, not the Facebook Page itself.

  • If you’re using Facebook’s New Pages Experience, you may need to click your profile image in the top-right corner of Facebook to switch back to your personal profile

Once you open the Business Integrations page:

  1. Locate HeyOrca

  2. Click View and Edit

  3. Ensure that all Pages, accounts, and permissions are enabled

  4. Save any changes

Once completed these steps, return to HeyOrca and try reauthorizing the account again.

2. Verify Facebook Page permissions

If reauthorization is still not working after reviewing your Business Integrations settings, the issue may be related to Facebook Page permissions (yes, even if you’re connecting to an Instagram account).

To reconnect Facebook or Instagram Business accounts in HeyOrca, you must have Full Control access on the Facebook Page itself — not just access through Meta Business Suite or a Business Portfolio.

⚠️ Access to a Business Portfolio or Meta Business Suite alone is not enough to connect a Facebook or Instagram Business account to HeyOrca. The connecting user must have Page-level Full Control permissions directly on the Facebook Page.

To check your Page permissions:

  1. Log into Facebook

  2. Switch into the Facebook Page if needed by clicking your profile image in the top-right corner

  3. Go to:
Settings & Privacy → Settings → Page Setup → Page Access

  4. Under People with Facebook access, confirm that:

    • your profile is listed

    • you have Full Control

If your profile is not listed, or you do not have Full Control, a Page admin will need to update your permissions before the account can be reauthorized in HeyOrca.

3. Verify the Facebook and Instagram account connection

If reauthorization is still not working after reviewing your permissions, verify the connection between the Facebook Page and Instagram account is linked. In some cases, Meta will require this review without sending a notification.

To check the connection status:

  1. Log into Facebook

  2. Switch into the Facebook Page if needed by clicking your profile image in the top-right corner

  3. Go to: Settings & Privacy > Settings > Linked Accounts

  4. Review the page for any messages or buttons that say:

    • Confirm Connection

    • Review Connection

    • or similar prompts related to Instagram

If you see a confirmation or review request, complete those steps first, then return to HeyOrca and try reauthorizing again.

👀 FYI: If you’re using the new Pages experience, Meta may display Instagram connection issues directly inside Meta Business Suite instead of the Facebook Page settings.

Frequent Reauthorization Requests

If you notice that your Facebook page is frequently disconnecting, it could mean that you need to confirm an Identity Confirmation with Facebook to continue acting as the page.

You can check if this is required by logging into your personal Facebook profile and going to facebook.com/id. There you will see if Facebook is requesting an identity confirmation from you. This can sometimes take 48 hours to be reviewed by Facebook, but once confirmed, you should be able to reauthorize the Facebook pages, and keep the accounts connected.

💡Tip: Not seeing any identity requests on your browser? Try opening the Facebook mobile app and check any identification prompts in there. They will pop-up when you open the app.

FAQ: Facebook/Instagram (Meta) Reauthorization

What is Meta?

Meta is the parent company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Because these platforms are connected through Meta’s systems and APIs, account permissions and connections are often managed through Facebook even if you are primarily using Instagram or Threads.

Why does Meta require so many permissions to connect accounts?

To support publishing, analytics, reporting, and other account features, HeyOrca requires access to certain business assets and permissions. These requirements are designed by Meta to help protect account security and control how third-party platforms access Facebook and Instagram data. Once the initial setup is completed correctly, ongoing reconnects and reauthorizations are typically much simpler.

I’m reauthorizing an Instagram connection—why am I checking permissions on Facebook?

Instagram Business accounts in HeyOrca are connected through Meta’s Graph API, which relies on a connected Facebook Page to manage permissions.

Because of this, you must have the correct permissions on the connected Facebook Page in order to connect or reauthorize an Instagram Business account in HeyOrca, even if you only plan to use Instagram.

Can I connect an Instagram account without a Facebook Page?

Not at this time. While some other third-party social media management tools may offer alternative connection methods, HeyOrca currently connects Instagram Business accounts through Meta’s Graph API.

Because Meta manages Instagram Business publishing permissions through Facebook, an Instagram Business account must be connected to a Facebook Page in order to connect and publish through HeyOrca.

This connection is required by Meta and allows HeyOrca to securely publish content, pull analytics, and sync account activity from Instagram.

I have access in Meta Business Suite but still cannot connect. How do I fix it?

This is one of the most common Meta connection issues.

Access to a Meta Business Portfolio or Meta Business Suite alone is not enough to connect or reauthorize Facebook and Instagram Business accounts in HeyOrca. To connect successfully, you must have Full Control or Admin access directly on the Facebook Page itself.

If you only have Business Suite access, a Page admin will need to grant you direct Page-level permissions before you can connect or reauthorize the account in HeyOrca.
