What is Reauthorization?
Before we dive into explaining how reauthorization works in HeyOrca, you may wonder why this happens. Social networks require your permission to connect to third-party apps through your account. As a security measure, they occasionally require you to reauthorize and confirm that you still allow HeyOrca to connect to your account. There are many reasons why you may need to reauthorize an account. Here are some of the most common reasons you may need to reauthorize:
A period of time has passed, determined by the social network. Ex: Facebook requires reauthorization around every 60 days. Be aware that this is always subject to change, as they state in their documentation that “You should not depend on these lifetimes remaining the same - the lifetime may change without warning or expire early.”
Password change or a change in permissions
2-Factor Authentication needs to be completed
Account has been flagged for suspicious activity
Note: Your Pop-up blocker will need to be disabled for app.heyorca.com in order to re-connect your pages.
How can I tell if an account needs to be reauthorized?
A red alert in the left-hand navigation bar above your profile picture means that one of your social accounts needs to be reauthorized.
Click the red yield sign to expand the notification and see which accounts need to be reauthorized.
The Reauthorization Dashboard shows which accounts are connected and which need to be reauthorized.
Click Check Status to refresh the account and make sure the dashboard is showing the latest status.
How do I reauthorize my social account?
Step 1: Ensure you have the correct permissions to reauthorize the account.
For Facebook pages, LinkedIn Company Pages, and LinkedIn Showcase pages, you need to be an admin on the page.
For X (Twitter), LinkedIn Personal, and Instagram personal accounts you need to log in to the correct social account in your browser. This means you need to have the credentials for the account.
Step 2: Click the Reauthorize button. This will take you through the steps to reauthorize your social account.
I still can't reauthorize! What do I do?
Reauthorizing social accounts can sometimes be tricky, but we are here to help every step of the way! 🙏
First things first, try clicking Check Status next to the account that you are trying to reauthorize on your Reauthorization Dashboard.
If a green check appears next to the account after clicking Check Status, there is no need to reauthorize.
If there is still a red yield sign next to the account after reauthorizing and checking the status, here is troubleshooting advice, broken down by social network:
Roles & Permissions and security on Facebook can be more complex than the other social networks. Here’s a checklist of some questions to ask yourself if you are running into trouble reauthorizing a Facebook page.
Are you an admin of the page either directly on the page, or through the business manager?
Have you completed two-factor authentication if it is required/enabled?
Are you able to log in to Facebook and post to the Facebook page?
If you receive a red error message after being redirected back from Facebook saying:
"Token not Valid."
If you see this error message, it could mean that you do not have the correct admin permissions to connect this Facebook page. Please go to the Facebook page in a seperate tab and confirm that you are an Admin on the Facebook page.
Sometimes, small changes to the Facebook page may change your role from admin to moderator.
You can refer to the video below on how to check your role on a Facebook page.
"Token valid but lacking necessary scopes."
From your personal Facebook profile, go to this link on Facebook. Once there, you will see HeyOrca listed - click on 'View and Edit' and ensure that all accounts, pages and permissions are enabled.
Once done, try reauthorizing in HeyOrca!
You can refer to the video below on how to check your business integrations and ensure that all permissions and accounts are enabled.
Facebook Page frequently disconnects.
If you notice that your Facebook page is frequently disconnecting, it could mean that you need to confirm an Identity Confirmation with Facebook to continue acting as the page.
You can check if this is required by logging into your personal Facebook profile and going to facebook.com/id. There you will see if Facebook is requesting an identity confirmation from you. This can sometimes take 48 hours to be reviewed by Facebook, but once confirmed, you should be able to reauthorize the Facebook pages, and keep the accounts connected.
You can refer to the video on how to check if Facebook is requesting an identity confirmation for your profile.
LinkedIn Company Page
Are you an admin on the LinkedIn Company page?
Have you completed two-factor authentication if it is required/enabled?
Are you able to login to LinkedIn and post to the LinkedIn page?
Are you a Content Admin or a Super Admin on the LinkedIn Page?
(If you're not one of these roles, you won't be able to reauthorize.)
Still can’t reauthorize? Try this:
Remove HeyOrca from the permitted services.
Then, go back to your dashboard and try to reauthorize again.
LinkedIn Personal Page
Are you logged into the correct LinkedIn account?
Have you completed two-factor authentication if it is required/enabled?
Still can’t reauthorize? Try this:
Remove HeyOrca from the permitted services.
Then, go back to your dashboard and try to reauthorize again.
X (Twitter)
Are you logged into the correct X account?
Still can’t reauthorize? Try this:
Go to X's Settings Page
Choose HeyOrca and Revoke Access.
Then, go back to your dashboard and try to reauthorize again.
Instagram Business
*For Business Instagram accounts, you will have to manage the accounts through Facebook as Instagram's publishing permissions are managed by Meta.
Step 1: Head over to your Reauthorization Dashboard by clicking the Red Warning symbol at the bottom of your navigation bar:
Step 2: When on your dashboard page, select the Instagram page you want to reconnect to and click Reauthorize:
Make sure to click Business Profile when you are redirected.
Note: Since Instagram is now a part of Meta/Facebook, all steps will need to be completed within Facebook for Instagram business accounts, and will no longer require Instagram to open. All of your pages will show in your page list on Facebook.
"Token not Valid."
If you see this error message, it could mean that you do not have the correct admin permissions to connect this Facebook page. Please go to the Facebook page in a seperate tab and confirm that you are an Admin on the Facebook page connected to the IG account.
"Instagram Business account could not be reauthorized."
If this message appears, it likely means that something between the Facebook page and the Instagram business accounts needs to be reviewed. Small changes to the Instagram account can prompt an alert within the Meta business suite to confirm/review the connection.
You can check this by going to business.facebook.com, and checking for any Alerts or exclamation marks on this page, once you have the correct Facebook page selected from the top dropdown menu.
If you do see a prompt that indicates the IG connection needs to be confirmed or reviewed, this will need to be completed before you're able to publish to the IG account again.
You can refer to the video below to learn how to check the connection between your Instagram account and Facebook page.
